Indian Test all-rounder Hanuma Vihari was bought by Delhi Capitals formerly Delhi Daredevils at the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. The Delhi-based franchise snapped the all-rounder for INR 2 Crore. Vihari had a base price of INR 50 Lakh and after the bidding war with Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Capitals bought the former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) player. Vihari is currently with Indian cricket team in Australia and was part of the playing for the second Test, which India lost by 146 runs. He picked two wickets and scored 20 and 28 in the match. The 25-year-old all-rounder has played 65 T20s and has scored 1219 runs at a strike-rate of 111.12. He has scalped 21 wickets as well. Vihari has not made his T20I debut yet. Meanwhile, Delhi came into the IPL 2019 auction with a total purse of INR 25.50 Crore and could buy maximum of seven Indian and three foreign players. Ahead of the IPL 2019 auction, Delhi traded Abhishek Sharma, Vijay Shankar, Shahbaz Nadeem for Shikhar Dhawan from Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Also ahead of the auctions, Delhi changed their team name, hoping to bring in new luck. Delhi have never won an IPL title and their best finish till date remains semifinals in 2008 and 209 editions. They made it to the playoffs in 2012 edition of IPL. Shreyas Iyer is the captain of Delhi Capitals.
