Deepak Chahar has arrived! Playing his only second T20I international for India, Chahar rattled the West Indies top order to finish with career-best figures of 3-1-4-3. His three overs included one maiden, four runs and three wickets and by the time he had finished his third over, West Indies were reduced to 3/22. It was also the best figures by an Indian bowler against West Indies in international T20s, surpassing the 3/13 Kuldeep Yadav had set at Kolkata in 2018. Earlier, Navdeep Saini had also achieved his career-best figures 3/17 in the first of the T20I international against West Indies. Interestingly, all three bowlers' best T20I figures for India came against the West Indies.

Chahar came to bowl the second over of the West Indies innings – after skipper, Virat Kohli had won the toss and opted to field first – and required just five deliveries to get his first wicket in the match. A short ball to Sunil Narine, after he had troubled him with fuller lengths, saw the left-handed batsman top-edge to Navdeep Saini at mid-on. Chahar showed brilliant use of his ability to seam the ball to trap the West Indian opening batsman plumb in front of the wicket. He reviewed but the out decision stayed and four deliveries later Chahar completed his third wicket-haul. It was the 26-year-old’s first three-wicket haul in international cricket in his only second T20I appearance for India.
