Delhi Daredevils registered their third win of the season as they defeated Rajasthan Royals by fours runs in a rain-curtailed game. Set a target of 151 in 12 overs, Royals managed to score 146. Delhi posted 196 for six in 17.1 overs after the rain delayed the start of the match. With this win, Daredevils now move to sixth place from eighth on the IPL 2018 points table while Royals slip to seventh.

Jos Buttler smashed the fastest fifty for Royals but that wasn’t enough for them to register a victory. Buttler slammed fifty of 18 balls, third fastest in IPL history, to keep Royals in the hunt. He eventually fell to Amit Mishra after scoring 67 off just 26 balls. Buttler, who was promoted as an opener, hit seven sixes and four fours. You can watch video highlights of DD vs RR here.

After Buttler’s dismissal, Sanju Samson and Ben Stokes were removed cheaply as well. However, D Arcy Short, who initially struggled to get going, played some aggressive shots to take Royals close to the target. In the 10th over, he smashed Glenn Maxwell for three back to back sixes and it looked like Royals might pull it off. The left-hander, however, was dismissed in the same over.

In last two overs, Royals needed 30 runs to win. Rahul Tripathi and Krishnappa Gowtham scored 15 runs in the penultimate over bowled by Avesh Khan. Trent Boult then bowled the last over and successfully defended the 15 runs, despite Gowtham smashing his for a four on the penultimate ball. Needing five off the last ball, Boult kept his cool and gave away just one run to help his side win.

Earlier, put to bat Daredevils managed to put on a big total after Prithvi Shaw, skipper Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant played aggressively. Pant was top-scorer for his side with 29-ball 69.
