Kings XI Punjab continued their winning momentum as they defeated Delhi Daredevils in a closely fought contest by four runs. This was KXIP’s fifth win from six matches and fourth consecutive this season. The Ravi Ashwin-led side successfully defended the total of 143 and Daredevils were restricted to 139 for eight. Chasing 144, Delhi got off to a decent start with your Prithvi Shaw playing aggressive shots up front. However, KXIP soon found success with Ankit Rajpoot removing Shaw and Glenn Maxwell in his consecutive overs. Delhi were the further dented when they lost skipper Gautam Gambhir inside the Powerplay. The home side then kept losing wickets at regular intervals to make things worse for themselves. However, Shreyas Iyer kept the hope in DD dugout alive as he stitched a partnership of 47 runs with Rahul Tewatia at a crucial time. In the 18th over, Delhi lost the sixth wicket in shape of Tewatia.

Needing 21 from last two overs, Delhi were undone by Barinder Sran who not only picked Liam Plunkett’s wicket but gave away just four runs. Sran’s splendid effort left Kings XI with 17 to defend from last over.

Shreyas Iyer tried his best to take his side over the line but all he could manage was 12 runs off Mujeeb Zadran. Needing five off the last ball, Shreyas Iyer was caught near long-off.

For Kings XI, Rajpoot, Andrew Tye, and Mujeeb picked two wickets each.

Earlier put to bat, Kings XI crawled their way to 143 for eight in their allotted 20 overs. Karun Nair was top-scorer for his side with 34 off 32 balls. For Daredevils, Plunkett was impressive with the ball as he returned figures of 3/17 in his quota of four overs.

Meanwhile, this was Daredevils fifth loss of the season from six matches. This was also the first home game of the season for the Gambhir-led side.
