David Warner could not excel with the bat though, getting dismissed at 2 and 8 in first and second innings respectively. Steve Smith and David Warner were banned for one year from cricket for engaging in the ball-tampering scandal in 2018 during South Africa tour. Cameroon Bancroft was another player involved in the controversial act and banned for nine months. All three of them used sandpaper to tamper the ball during the tour. Steve Smith and David Warner returned to the national team before World Cup 2019.
