Sportspersons get injured in most bizarre ways and Australia cricketer D'Arcy Short’s injury is definitely a freaky one. The 28-year-old missed out on participating in Western Australia vs New South Wales, first tie of JLT One-Day Cup 2018 after his pet dog Ralph bit him! The unfortunate incident took place earlier this month while D’Arcy was playing with his dog and was bitten on his left hand. The Western Australia cricketer needed stitches and is currently recuperating. MS Dhoni Plays With His Pet Dogs at his Home in Ranchi (Watch Video).

Western Australia Cricket Association Sports Science Sports Medicine Manager Nick Jones was quoted saying, “D'Arcy had an unlucky incident two weeks ago while playing with his dog, where his hand got in the way of a dog toy, and the bite caused a deep laceration to the palm of his hand.” Jones further added, “He needed a few stitches and surgical washout but has returned to batting and catching balls this week, and is on track for selection in Round 2."

Meet D'Arcy Short's Pet Dog Ralph!

For Western Australia, their clash against NSW saw a depleted side take the field. Apart from D'Arcy Short, all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and medium pacer Matthew Kelly were also out due to injuries. The trio was replaced by Simon Mackin, Will Bosisto and Sam Whiteman. Virat Kohli & Anushka Sharma Share Adorable Picture With a Cute Puppy.

“Marcus and Matt are both very close to being cleared to play, but we would prefer not to rush anyone back at the beginning of the season and want to ensure they have fully recovered from injury before returning to play,” Jones said of the other injuries.

However, it was D'Arcy Short’s freakish injury that got everyone talking. It is not every day when a player is forced to sit out courtesy of their pet animals. And D’Arcy seems to simply adore Ralph, whose pictures the Aussie player keeps posting on his Instagram account. We are sure Short would be not holding Ralph responsible for not playing WA vs NSW match and instead be more careful when playing with his pet.
