Although cricket is the first love for the South African bowler, surfing is surely his passion. Steyn has undertaken surfing in multiple countries and Australia, India, Sri Lanka and Barbados are some of the places where the former no. 1 Test bowler has planned his surfing outings. Steyn has also shared many videos of his surfing skills on the internet. He also did an interview during Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2016 where he undertook surfing and expressed his love for the adventure sport. Steyn believes that surfing helps to maintain fitness a lot. Below is the video where Steyn opens up about his love for surfing.

Steyn has also got company by some other cricketers in his surfing plans in the past. In 2015, he went on surfing in Vishakhapatnam, India and New Zealand cricketer Kane Williamson accompanied him for the adventure. He had shared the moment of the event on his Instagram. Have a look.

Other than surfing, Steyn also likes to do mountain climbing, fishing and underwater swimming. Some other photos of his Instagram also give a glimpse of these activities which the right-handed pacer loves to do. These things totally prove that Steyn is not an indoor person at all. While many cricketers visit lovely places and attend lavish parties when not on the cricket field, for Steyn, it is surfing which is a crucial part of his off-field life.
