As we await the final battle between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad to begin, here’re five interesting things that you need to know in build up to the riveting contest.

  • Chennai Super Kings come into the final unbeaten against Sunrisers Hyderabad this season. In three meetings, SRH have failed to win against CSK. Super Kings won both the league-stage matches and then continued their domination with a victory in the Qualifier 1 as well.
  • Both CSK and SRH are poles apart when it comes to strengths. CSK is a powerful batting unit while SRH boasts of top-notch bowling. It is evident by the fact, that CSK happens to be the only side to chase down 180+ targets thrice this season. SRH, on the other hand, are the only side to defend totals less than 150 thrice. So, we are in for a competitive battle between bat and the ball.
  • While this will be CSK’s seventh final appearance, for MS Dhoni it will be 8th IPL final. Besides leading CSK to finals on seven occasions, he was part of the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant team that finished runner-up in 2017.
  • It’s not just the unbeaten run over SRH that makes CSK strong favourites. At Wankhede, CSK have won six out of 12 IPL matches while SRH’s win-loss ratio stands at poor 1:4. Also, when it comes to head-to-head record, CSK have won seven out of nine matches against SRH.
  • Toss could play an important factor in deciding the winner and the team winning it should look to bat first. Well, we are not saying this out of the blue! Out of ten IPL finals, the team batting first has won on seven occasions. So, chasing is not the thing to do when it comes to final.

Both the teams have an experience of playing in the final. Though, CSK is senior in that regard. But, Sunrisers will like to take a cue from the fact that Super Kings have lost four finals. All in all, fans will be hoping for a competitive cricket rather than the one-sided final. By the way, who will win the IPL 2018? Let us know in the comments below.
