It was a forgettable day for the Royal Challengers Bangalore as everything they did at the Maharashtra Cricket Association in Pune went wrong for the team. After winning the toss, CSK invited the guests to bat and it all started off with Brendon McCullum making way to the pavilion in the first over itself. Skipper Virat Kohli soon followed McCullum to the pavilion on 8.

Apart from Parthiv Patel and Tim Southee, all others made way to the pavilion in single digits. It was the spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Harbhajan Singh who bowlers 8 overs at a stretch and got rid of half the RCB team. Tim Southee somehow chipped in with 35 runs. Cameo from Southee helped the team reach the score of 127. (Check out the video highlights of the match here )

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that team Chennai Super Kings had already won the match when they walked into bat. Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu got off to a good start. Soon the Australian made way to the pavilion making way for Suresh Raina who scored 25 runs off 21 balls. Debutant Dhruv Shorey made 8 and soon skipper MS Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo stepped in with an obvious aim of finishing off the game. There was a juncture where the game could slip off towards the opponents.  But missed chances, a couple of dropped catches by Parthiv Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal cost the match dearly to Virat Kohli’s men. (Here’s the scorecard of the match)

Over all it was a bad day for RCB as Chennai Super Kings outplayed the Men in Red in all the departments of the game. Ravindra Jadeja walked away with the Man of the Match Award. After losing the match, Kohli said, “A close game of cricket. Dropped catches don't help. Not the ideal day for us: losing so many wickets. But that's how this game goes. We gave a really good effort in the second half. It did play slow in the first half but it played slow throughout which was surprising. Had we taken or chances, we could have made it harder for themselves. The boys showed good fight, but we lost too many wickets. We would have liked to win, but Dhoni played well and they deserved to win. We know it's a tough road ahead. We need to win probably four out of five. These situations bring the best out of us, and I feel positive about the rest of the games."

Dhoni however is worried about his bowling department. He said, “What we're slightly worried about is the bowling department - if you see the first few games, there was no individual who stepped up and said he could bowl in the death overs. Identifying our death bowler before the knockouts is the only thing we're worried about and that's why we're making a few changes. We're playing with multiple bowlers - two spinners and the rest pacers - that takes the pressure off the rest and allows Bravo to bowl at the death. He's a specialist in the death and doesn't need to always bowl four overs. There's pressure on everyone.”
