Shahid Afridi who recently had signed up for the Jamaica Tallawahs at the Caribbean Premier League 2018 (CPL 2018), has pulled out of the tournament due to an injury in the knee. As of now, the Pakistani batsman is undergoing rehabilitation for the same. The knee has been troubling him since earlier this year and Afridi had to pull out from the Pakistan Super League. Afridi represented Karachi Kings at the PSL. (Check out the schedule for the Caribbean Premier League here)

However, Afridi was a part of the charity game against England at Lord’s on May 30 with Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya. He had appeared for Edmonton Royals in the Global Canada T20 League in July. However, about CPL 2018, Afridi took to Twitter to inform his followers about his decision of withdrawing from the league. He wrote, “Due to my knee rehab I’ll have to sadly miss out this year’s #BiggestPartyInSport with the @JAMTallawahs I’ll be cheering for the team from home and I’m sure @simadwasim will fill up for me #CPL18 #DreamBIGwidTallawahs.”

The Jamaica Tallawahs, in reply, wished the batsman a speedy recovery. “We wish you a speedy recovery and we hope your cheers propel us onto victory!" they tweeted. Before that, however, he had taken to Twitter to give an update on the condition of his knee, saying, “Went to see my doctor in Dubai, the knee hasn’t recovered fully yet. I’ll need another 3-4 weeks. Hoping to regain full fitness after that, keep praying for me.” Afridi announced his international retirement last year, but continues to play T20 cricket for franchises the world over.
