Universe Boss Chris Gayle was at his absolute best as he smashed Global T20 Canada’s 2019 first century. Playing for Vancouver Knights against Montreal Tigers Gayle slammed unbeaten 122 off just 54 balls at an impressive strike rate of 225.93. During his knock, the West Indies cricketer hit seven fours and 12 sixes. Sadly, Gayle is not part of the Windies squad for upcoming T20Is against India. Global T20 Canada 2019: Vancouver Knights vs Montreal Tigers Match Called Off Due to Bad Weather.
Gayle's fireworks with the bat saw Vancouver Knights post a record total of 276 for three in 20 overs. It is now the highest in GT20 Canada’s history and second in the T20 format. Apart from Gayle Tobias Visee, the wicket-keeper batsman scored 51 off just 19 balls. The duo added 63 runs for the opening wicket in just 4.3 overs.
Besides the openers, South African import in Vancouver Knights team Rassie van der Dussen made a valuable contribution of 25-ball 56. Sean Abbott was the most expensive bowler as he gave away 68 runs from his quota of four over though he picked the wicket of van der Dussen in the last over. Unfortunately for Vancouver Knights, they were not provided with an opportunity to defend such a big total as bad weather played a spoilsport. The match between Vancouver Knights and Montreal Tigers was called off due to the threat of lightning and thunderstorm.
Both the teams were then awarded a point each. As of now, Vancouver Knights are placed third on the GT20 Canada 2019 points table while Montreal Tigers are on the fourth spot. Both the teams have three points from three matches but Vancouver Knights are placed higher thanks to their better net run-rate (NRR).
