South Africa Win By An Innings and 32 Runs | IND vs SA Highlights of 1st Test 2023 Day 3: Nandre Burger, Marco Jansen Power Proteas to Innings Victory
Dean Elgar pushed the Indian bowling attack back with his century with support from Tony de Zorzi and David Bedingham. South Africa is in the lead and India has to come up with a solid plan to bring the game back in their favour.
Out! An unfortunate end of India and Virat Kohli who looked like at his very best in Test cricket after a long time. Indian batting came down really like a pack of cards in the second innings thanks to the inspired bowling from Marco Jansen and Nandre Burger. Earlier, Dean Elgar and Kagiso Rabada power South Africa ahead in the game and it will be a memorable victory for the Proteas.
Out! India are on the brink of an innings defeat now. Mohammed Siraj tries to evade a short one from Nandre Burger who has been bowling in terrific rhythm and gets a faint edge off his gloves as the ball lobs to the wicketkeeper. The end is inevitable for India now.
Out! Another one down for India. It has been a horror performance from India with the bat. Shardul Thakur tries to negotiate a ball from Kagiso Rabada that bounced a little extra but could only get the shoulder of the bat to it. The ball jumps of to David Bedingham at gully and now Virat Kohli has to find a way with the tailenders.
Fifty! Virat Kohli has looked dominant with the bat and the dual strike from South Africa came at a time when it looked like Virat Kohli can really salvage something for India. He finally reaches his half-century and has a huge task cut out in front of him.
Out! Back to back body blows for India. First, the hero of first innings, KL Rahul falls to his channel bowling. Trying for an expansive drive only to edge it to the slips and it was followed by Ravichandran Ashwin playing one straight to the hands of David Bedingham at gully. India are in deep trouble now and looking at an innings defeat.
Out! Marco Jansen gets another. Similar to the style of Shubman Gill's dismissal. Angles one in round the wicket, Shreyas Iyer tries to work it to the onside but the ball takes the inside edge and crashes into the stumps. India are on the brink of a big loss here.
It's Tea on Day 3 and if South Africa held on to their chances, India would be in much more trouble then they already are. Shreyas Iyer got a life just before Tea and India will have to come up with something really special to turn the situation around. South African bowlers have been relentless all the way through.
Out! Frustrating for Shubman Gill as he stands in disbelief. He was looking good with some beautiful shots but tries to flick a straighter on towards mid wicket but ends up missing it completely and the ball crashes into the stumps. End of a short but impactful stay, though it is unlikely to be enough.
Out! Yashasvi Jaiswal perishes as well and India are in trouble losing two wickets early. The pitch has displayed some up and down bounce and Nandre Burger gets one to kick off the surface a bit more taking a feather off Jaiswal's glove on the way to the wicketkeeper. India are chasing the game big time here.
Out! What a ball from Kagiso Rabada! It is similar to the ball with which Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Rabada himself. Gets Rohit Sharma to commit with the angle and then it seams a tough away to hit the offstump. Body blow for India as they lose their captain very early.
Out! That's the ninth wicket down for South Africa and that will be the end of the South African innings. Temba Bavuma won't come out to bat. Jasprit Bumrah finally gets through the defence of Nandre Burger. Marco Jansen on the other end showed a fantastic fight and stays unbeaten on 84. India have to bat really well to post a healthy lead.
Out! Jasprit Bumrah strikes immediately after lunch and he has Kagiso Rabada's stumps go cartwheeling. Too good a ball for a left armer. Angles in and straightens a touch to take the offstump flying. Rabada also acknowledged how good a delivery it was while leaving.
Out! Frustration ends for Ravichandran Ashwin. Gerald Coetzee took on the Indian bowling since he came on to the crease and tried to go big again over the covers. Ashwin gets him to miscue and the ball straight goes into the hand of Mohammed Siraj. India has to wrap up the tail now quickly.
Out! Finally Dean Elgar is gone. A pretty unlucky dismissal at the end and Shardul Thakur finally gets the reward of relentless trying. Elgar tries to duck a short one but gets a bit late and the ball takes his glove on it's way to the keeper's gloves. India will breathe a little easy now.
Fifty! Crucial contribution from Marco Jansen as he stitches a partnership with Dean Elgar which almost throws India out of the game. Starting at a situation when South Africa lost two quick wickets, Jansen took his time and then used his long levers to put the Indian bowlers under pressure. Now he completes his half-century.
The partnership between Dean Elgar and Marco Jansen has now gone past the 100-run mark as South Africa's total reaches 300. The home side leads by 55 runs with India failing to pick a wicket in the first hour of today's play.
