The reception of the England crowd towards the Australian players on the day 1 of the Ashes 2019 has been extremely hostile. Boos, chants, nasty banners, flaunting sandpapers etc. have been a common sight during the match at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground. After winning the toss, Australia elected to bat first. The Australians lost three early wickets. As Bancroft was making his way back to the pavilion, a few a fan was seen carrying a banner with sandpaper written on it. If one may recall, Cameron Bancroft was also accused of ball-tampering and was seen using the sandpaper during the Test match against South Africa last year in March. Talking about the game, Australia has lost seven wickets and have managed to score 120 runs. Stuart Broad snapped for wickets whereas, Chris Waoakes got three. Broad got rid of the Australian openers-Warner and Bancroft. The pacer also snapped the wickets of Australian captain Tim Paine and James Pattinson. Whereas Travis Head, Mathew Wade and Usman Khawaja’s wickets were snapped by Woakes. The team still has Steve Smith fighting along with Pat Cummins and the team has now put up 121 runs on the board.
