Veteran cricketer Bishen Singh Bedi responded to Gautam Gambhir's attack on him over Navdeep Saini's entry into Indian team. Stressing that he never said anything negative about Saina, Bedi was quoted by Times of India as saying that he believes that if someone has made it to India team, its credit goes to the player and not someone else. Bedi also said that never questioned merit of Saini and does not want to reply negatively on Twitter. Without taking Gambhir's name, Bedi also mentioned that The Delhi cricketer hasn't sobered even after becoming a Member of Parliament. Gambhir is a sitting MP from East Delhi. Gambhir had attacked Bedi and former Indian cricketer Chetan Chauhan after Saini's inclusion in the Indian team. On Twitter, 37-year-old cricketer turned politician earlier wrote, "Kudos Navdeep Saini on ur India debut. U already have 2 wkts even before u have bowled- @BishanBedi & @ChetanChauhanCr. Their middle stumps are gone seeing debut of a player whose cricketing obituary they wrote even before he stepped on the field, shame!!!". In 2013, Bedi had allegedly expressed his displeasure on Saini's selection in Delhi cricket team by allegedly writing a letter to then DDCA President Sneh Bansal. The right-handed pacer Saini made his debut in the Indian team in the first T20 against West Indies at Florida. Saini impressed everyone with his astonishing performance by bagging three wickets and getting player of the match award. Bedi applauded Saini's performance but also pointed out that he has played only one match for India so far and we will have to see his future performances too. "The kid is outstanding, but has played only one game for India. We should wait for some more time," Bedi said.
Chetan Chauhan also gave a befitting reply to Gambhir on Twitter saying that Navdeep Saini's selection was questioned because of DDCA rules and not because of his merit. "Rule approved by Delhi Cricket Association was 1 year cooling period for player from other states. There was no question of talent n ability in his case. Don't try n belittle others n glorify self", Chauhan had replied to Gambhir's tweet.
