India won the Asia Cup 2023 for the eighth time defeating Sri Lanka in the final at Colombo. The win was pretty dominant as India wrapped up the Sri Lankan innings for just 50 after the hosts opted to bat first winning the toss. Mohammed Siraj bowled a remarkable spell taking six wickets for just 21 runs including four in one over which left Sri Lanka stranded at 12/5. Hardik Pandya took three wickets and wrapped up the Sri Lankan innings. Records galore as India chased down the total in just 6.1 overs and secured a massive ten-wicket victory. The loss was rather shameful to Sri Lanka as they could bat for only 15.2 overs and the match got over in less than three hours after just 21.3 overs. According to a report by DailyMirror, SJB National Organizer and Member of Parliament Tissa Attanayake remarked that Sri Lanka's shameful defeat on Sunday was a birthday gift for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Everyone expected a keenly fought encounter on Sunday but it was not so, as the match ended within few hours. I don’t want to describe the defeat as it will affect the morale of our players. However, an investigation has to be conducted to determine whether there has been any politics involved in the defeat. “We are deeply disappointed and saddened with the defeat Sri Lanka has suffered,” he added. “The Sports Ministry officials were summoned before the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) recently after the auditor general had revealed several scams. It has been revealed that no stadium has been found in Kilinochchi though the annual performance report of the Sports Ministry had revealed that it has spent millions for a new stadium in the North, while the Ministry has not been able to produce a proper balance sheet to reveal its assets and liabilities. Can the Sports Ministry conduct a probe on the Asia Cup defeat under such circumstances?” he replied when questioned whether the Sports Ministry should be entrusted with the task of carrying out an investigation.
