Bhuvneshwar Kumar has suffered yet another injury. According to a BCCI official, the Indian pacer has been recovering from the injury and currently going through strength and conditioning programmes at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Kumar injury has also put NCA under scanner for their poor handling of cricketers recovering from injuries. A BCCI official questioned NCA over unavailability of the Indian pacer over a long time. Kumar last played in India’s tour of West Indies 2019 in July and has been off the field since. BCCI also has not been clear on Bhuvi’s absence from India vs South Africa 2019 series and Team India’s upcoming home series against Bangladesh. A BCCI official was quoted as saying by Times of India that Bhuvneshwar is still recovering from an injury sustained in 2018 as NCA did not treat properly. “It’s becoming a trend now at the NCA. As it is, the institution is fighting a label of just being a rehab centre and these cases keep coming up. Saha lost a good year and half of his career,” the official told TOI. “If Bhuvneshwar’s injury is not as serious, they must come up with a clear explanation of why it is taking him so long to get back on the field. The board announced that Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya needed to travel to England. Bumrah didn’t even need surgery,” the official further said.
Another source was also quoted as saying that BHivneshwar wasn’t treated properly last year by NCA. “He was not treated properly. His injury was allowed to aggravate because the team wanted to take him to the World Cup. He is still one of the first choices for white-ball cricket but he needs to get back on to the field before building up for next year’s T20 World Cup,” the source said.
