After warming the bench throughout the Test series, Bhuvneshwar Kumar finally had a ball in his hand. The fast-bowler made early inroad against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in the first One-Day International (ODI). Bhuvi cleaned up Australian opener and captain Aaron Finch with a delivery that came in towards the right-handed batsman. After dismissing Finch for just six runs, Bhuvneshwar completed his 100 wickets in ODIs. And became the 18th Indian bowler to scalp 100 ODI wickets. It took Bhuvneshwar 96 ODIs to reach he three-figure mark in wickets column. The 28-year-old pacer made his ODI debut against Pakistan in 2012 and of-late has been an important member of the Indian ODI side.

After Bhuvneshwar removed Finch early, India found second success through Kuldeep Yadav who had Alex Carey caught in the lone slip. Australia promoted wicketkeeper batsman Alex Carey as an opener and he looked good before being dismissed. However, for Finch the bad patch with the bat continues. After not so impressive outings in the Test series, he was dropped for the fourth and last Test and now again has failed to put up a good show.

The two teams recently battled it out in the Test matches and now are competing in the three-match ODI series. The second and third ODIs will take place on January 15 and 18 respectively.
