The Supreme Court on Thursday ditched One State One Vote policy and accepted modifications recommended by the BCCI. The One State One Vote Policy was recommended by the Lodha Committee the Apex court has also given full membership to Mumbai Cricket Association, Vidarbha, Saurashtra, Vadodara, and Railways. The Supreme Court Panel has given four weeks to the BCCI to get the new constitution registered. The cooling off period for the BCCI office bearers will be in place after two consecutive terms.
In 2016, in one of the verdicts by Supreme Court had approved the recommendation of the Lodha Committee and said that only one cricket association in the state should have the voting right. The policy recommended by the Lodha Committee was criticised by the members of the Mumbai Cricket Association, Cricket Club of India (CCI), Vidarbha Cricket Association, Baroda Cricket Association and Saurashtra Cricket Association. These cricketing bodies are in Maharashtra and Gujarat and hold a permanent seat in the Indian board.
On the state of anonymity, a BCCI official had spoken to The Hindu and said, "Those existing members who are affected by the changes suggested by the Committee must appreciate that the changes are being suggested in the interest of the game. Governance being the central theme, the changes in membership in the BCCI are inevitable and must be seen in the right spirit of fair representation. This East Zone official is unhappy, however, that the Supreme Court has endorsed the recommendation that the six Ranji Trophy teams (from Maharashtra and Gujarat) receive the grant for development of cricket. “There is also this rule that member units which have staged international matches should be given more money. It’s possible that someone may go to court now."
