BCCI Secretary Jay Shah Reveals Newly Constructed NCA Will Be Available For Support of Olympic Athletes; Rejects Idea of India Hosting Women's T20 World Cup 2024 and Pink-Ball Test Matches

The Women's T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to take place in Bangladesh in the month of October and November. However, dark clouds have risen on the tournament due to the political unrest in the country and the ICC might be looking for a backup option to host the tournament. India could be one place where ICC might head to as it has hosted many ICC tournaments successfully. However, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has already refused to host the major women's marquee tournament. As per Jay Shah, India are currently experiencing monsoon and they are scheduled to host the Women's ODI World Cup next year due to which he refused to host the tournament. As quoted by Times of India, Jay Shah said,  "They had asked the BCCI if we can host the event, but I flatly refused. We would be still in the monsoon season (this October) and next year we are going to host the ODI Women's World Cup. Further in the interaction, Jay Shah revealed that the newly built National Cricket Academy on the outskirts of Bengaluru will become soon operational and it will also be available for the Indian Olympic athletes. He said, "We are going to make it available for Olympic sportspersons too, like Neeraj Chopra."

Jay Shah was further asked about whether India will host any pink ball Tests or not. Replying to the question, Shah refused to any possibilities and provisions of hosting a pink ball Test. Shah added that the pink ball Tests get over within 2-3 days due to which broadcasters and fans lose money. He said, "No, there are no provisions. Pink-ball Tests get over within two days in India. As a result, spectators lose money, broadcasters lose money. We need to look at sentiments also. As a fan, you go to a cricket match and buy a ticket for five days, but the game gets over within two or three days. There is no refund. So I am slightly emotional in this case."

India have hosted the pink ball Tests twice but both the games have ended up in two to three days. India last played a pink ball Test against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in the year 2022. The Indian team is now scheduled to play a day night Test against Australia in Adelaide at the end of this year.
