The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to up its ante against Pakistan following the recent attack on CRPF convoy in Kashmir’s Pulwama district. With people and some of the former cricketers requesting BCCI to boycott the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 match against Pakistan in June, the board has gone a step ahead and is seeking a ban on Pakistan from participating in the tournament which begins May 30 this year.
According to a report in Times of India, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) has prepared a letter which is addressed to Shashank Manohar, who is the chairman of International Cricket Council (ICC). As per the letter, BCCI has demanded Pakistan’s ouster from the tournament or else India will not take part. The reports adds that a call in this matter will be taken by CoA chairman Vinod Rai on Thursday, February 21 after thorough legal consultations. And subsequently, it will be decided whether the communication will be sent to ICC or not.
Interestingly, another report on this issue by India TV suggests that BCCI has already written a letter to the game’s governing body. As per the report, the board has already sent an email to the ICC, requesting to remove Pakistan from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 as “it has continued to harbour terrorists in its own backyard and has provided support to terrorism against India.” Harbhajan Singh Wants India to Snub 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup Tie Against Pakistan on June 16.
