For a few days now, there had been a debate is the WAGS should be put up with players during the overseas tours. As per the BCCI policy, the WAGs were not allowed to stay with the players for more than a couple of weeks during the overseas tour. This made Virat Kohli unhappy and a few weeks ago, he pleaded the BCCI to allow the wives to be put up with them. The BCCI finally heard the plea and has allowed the WAGs to stay with the players. Update: The News was False; BCCI to Take More time to take the Final Decision.

As per a report in TOI, the only clause that the BCCI added was that the WGS will stay with the players after the first ten days. According to the players, the presence of their counterpart only creates a positive environment. Cricket Australia had also introduced a similar rule in 2015. As per BCCI’s New Rule Virat Kohli-Anushka Sharma and Other WAGs Can Stay With Players for 14 Days During a Tour: Report.

Gautam Gambhir also spoke about the issue and said, “The player opinion varies. Only an individual can say because the individual has to play a Test match. Some want family to be there for the whole tour while others want little family time and they try to concentrate (on cricket). Whatever the decision, it should be taken in the best interest of Indian cricket.”

A source told the newspaper that the request had been made a few weeks ago. “The request was made a few weeks back but as it is a BCCI policy decision, the manager will have to submit a formal request first. Anushka has been travelling with Kohli overseas, however, Kohli now wants the old rule to be abolished and a new policy should come up where wives should be allowed to travel with the Indian team.”
