Babar Azam had earlier made the news for not willing to have a betting company logo on his Colombo Strikers jersey in the Lanka Premier League this year. The franchise then complied and also included a clause in his contract that would prevent him from endorsing such products. According to a report in Cricket Pakistan, he and other Pakistan cricketers including Mohammed Rizwan have sought to include similar clauses in their T20 franchise contracts which would have them not endorse products like tobacco, alcohol, surrogate betting products, pork items, and adult entertainment. Some of Pakistan Cricket Team’s ICC ODI World Cup 2023 Match Tickets Reportedly Sold Out.
The report also states that the players, who will have this clause in their contracts, will not have images or logos of such products or services on their jerseys. Neither will their images be used for promoting the same. It had earlier come to light that three franchises in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) had such surrogate advertisements of betting companies. Furthermore, the report also states that these players will be paid their fees from other sponsorships and arrangements made by team owners.
Moreover, these top Pakistan players have also approached the PCB to have such clauses inducted into their central contracts as well. Meanwhile, Babar Azam and Co will look to perform well in the Asia Cup, which would help them and other teams prepare for the much-awaited ICC World Cup 2023 in India. Pakistan start their Asia Cup 2023 campaign against Nepal at home before taking on India on September 2.
