Windies chase began on a shaky note as they lost two wickets for just 31 runs. Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran then added some stability to Windies innings with 68-run sand for the third wicket. After Pooran’s departure, Hope stitched a 50-run partnership with Shimron Hetmyer.

Hetmyer was then run-out and that opened the gates for Australia. Andre Russell then tried to play a cameo but was unsuccessful. Windies then kept losing wickets with Jason Holder scoring a half-century. ICC CWC 2019 points table

Following the win, Australian skipper Aaron Finch was happy with the team’s overall performance. “Really proud of the guys. Absolutely, I was nervous when they were coming hard at us at 30/4. We kept fighting back, we kept taking wickets which was crucial. You have to keep taking wickets against West Indies since they are so destructive,” Finch said.

“Our top-order was disappointing, few poor shots. And with the bowl, we have few areas to improve. I thought some of the short balls weren't high enough. To still come out with 2 points, with a lot of improvement to do, is a real positive for us,” he added. AUS vs WI, ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: Twitterati Lauds Mitchell Starc for his Five-Wicket Haul As Australia Beat West Indies.
