Six teams will be seeking for a place in the upcoming Asia Cup 2018. Apart from hosts Malaysia, UAE, Hong Kong, Nepal, Oman, and Singapore will be fighting it out in the Asia Cup 2018 Qualifier to book a berth in the tournament proper. The winner of Asia Cup 2018 Qualifier will join India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan to play in the Asia Cup 2018 which is scheduled from September 15 to 28. The qualifying team will be placed in Group A alongside India and Pakistan. Meanwhile, the Asia Cup 2018 Qualifier gets underway from August 29 and the final will be played on September 06 at the Kinrara Academy Oval, Kuala Lumpur. Apart from it, Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur and UKM-YSD Cricket Oval, Bangi, Malaysia will host the matches as well.
The 2018 edition of the Asia Cup will be held in the UAE. Initially, it was scheduled to take place in India. However, given the political tension between India and Pakistan, the tournament was shifted to the UAE. Rivals India and Pakistan will face-off in the group stage match on September 19. The two teams are expected to qualify for the next round- Super 4- and thus another India vs Pakistan encounter could be on offer. In fact, both the teams are being labelled as favourites to make it to the final of the tournament, which possibly could be the third contest between these rivals inside a month.
