The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) could well allow Wives And Girlfriends (WAGs) of Indian cricketers to be with them for a period of 14 days. If a report is to be believed, BCCI is considering to make it a rule and allow the players to be with their WAGs for not more than two weeks. The 14-day period will be considered during a tour of 45 days or more.
“In the event of 45-day tour, the BCCI did not want a fixed slot for the WAGs. It may or may not suit all of them. So, we’ve decided that the ladies can join their men for any 14 days during the tour after the first two weeks,” a source was quoted as saying by The Mumbai Mirror. This comes after BCCI had recently asked the players to stay away from their WAGS during the upcoming five-match Test series against England. In the past, WAGs had to face harsh criticism for the players' poor show and thus BCCI has come up with the rule, which is yet to be made official.
During the limited-overs leg of the England tour, the WAGs of Indian players, including Virat Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma, were present. However, ahead of the practice game against Essex, the WAGs were not allowed to stay with the players.
The all-important Test series against England starts on August 01 in Birmingham. The Test series ends with the fifth and final match on September 07. Following the Test series, India will take part in the Asia Cup 2018 to be held in UAE from September 15 onwards.
