As Imran Khan Is All Set to Become Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Wasim Akram Could Be Appointed New PCB Chairman
Not just Akram but Ramiz Raja’s name is appearing amongst the frontrunners for the PCB chairman post. Raja has previously served as Chief Executive of the PCB.
Pakistan’s cricket World Cup winning captain, Imran Khan is all set to become country’s new Prime Minister after his party Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) won the majority of seats in the recently held general assembly elections. Some major changes are expected in the various ‘governing bodies’ throughout the country. And Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to face a change in guard as well. Country’s Prime Minister automatically becomes the Patron-in-Chief of PCB and with Imran set to hold the office, he is expected to bring some changes in the functioning of the cricket’s governing body.
Najam Sethi is currently the chairman of PCB and if various reports are to be believed, Wasim Akram is likely to replace him. “Yes, Wasim is the front-runner for becoming next PCB chairperson. He’s been associated with IK since both legends used to play cricket for Pakistan and now both ready to take the country on new heights,” a family member was quoted as saying by Sports Mirchi. However, replacing Stehi won’t be an easy job. Sethi, who is also a journalist, has been instrumental in bringing the international cricket back in Pakistan. Following the 2009 terror attack on the visiting Sri Lanka cricket team, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and World XI have toured Pakistan. PCB have been successful in conducting the Pakistan Super League (PSL )2017 final and some matches including the final of PSL 2018 in the country.
