Making his debut for India U19, Arjun, son of Sachin Tendulkar, struck early for his side against the hosts Sri Lanka U19 in the first Youth Test at Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground, Colombo. After the home side opted to bat first, Arjun Tendulkar started the proceedings for India U19. The left-arm pacer conceded a boundary in his first over. However, in his second over, Arjun bounced back to pick his maiden wicket. The 18-year-old Tendulkar trapped Sri Lankan U19 opener Kamil Mishara, who scored just nine runs, in front of the wickets.
At the time of writing this report, the hosts had recovered from the early jolt and were 69 for one in 17 overs with another opener Nishan Madushka and captain Nipun Dananjaya Perera batting on 35 and 25 respectively. The Indian U19 is on Sri Lankan tour and will play two Youth Tests (four-day) apart from five one-dayers. The four-day side will be led by Delhi’s Anuj Rawat. Interestingly, Arjun has been selected for Youth Tests only and will not take part in the limited-overs fixtures.
Here's the video of Arjun Tendulkar's first wicket for India U19:
Arjun earlier represented Mumbai’s Under-19 squad in the Cooch Behar Trophy and impressed with his performances. He picked 18 wickets with an average of 25.22, which included two five-wicket hauls and a four-wicket haul.
All eyes will be on Arjun how he performs against the Sri Lanka U19 side. For now, he has got off to a decent start.
