Former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble revealed some surprising details of his iconic 10-wicket haul in the Test match against Pakistan in 1999. The former Indian spinner revealed in a conversation with VVS Laxman how Team India had planned to drop all catches of other bowlers so that he can bag 10 wickets in that match. During India vs Pakistan game at Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi in 1999, Anil Kumble bagged 10 wickets in the second innings to script history. He became the only second cricketer after former England cricketer Jim Laker to take 10 wickets in a single Test innings. Ravichandran Ashwin Beats Anil Kumble to Become Fastest Indian to Take 250 Test Wickets at Home, Reaches Milestone During IND vs BAN 1st Test Match.

During Very Very Special Stories show hosted by Laxman, Kumble revealed how Sadagopan Ramesh had almost spoiled his 10-wicket haul in the match. Kumble revealed that after he bagged his 9th wicket in the innings, the Indian team planned to let go of catches of all other bowlers so that he could script a history. Kumble revealed during the conversation that Ramesh was supposed to leave the catch but he may have forgotten the team plan. “I don’t think Ramesh heard the team plan, that’s how he is. He probably forgot that I had 9 out of 9 and was looking for the 10th, so he ran for the catch,” Kumble said.

Kumble’s 26.3-9-74-10 figures are the second-best figure in an innings after Jim Laker. England's former cricketer Jim Laker took 19 wickets in a Test innings in 1956. He took 10 wickets in an innings in the match while giving away 53 runs.
