Sachin made his international debut a year before but both were two indispensable members of the Indian cricket team in the early 2000s when India, under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly, tasted numerous victories both at home and abroad. Tendulkar also played for India under Kumble’s captaincy. It was in 2007, when Rahul Dravid resigned from captaincy and Tendulkar refused to take over the reins, that Kumble was appointed the captain. He remains the only leg spinner to have captained the Indian team and captained them through one of Indian cricket’s tough most series in Australia where both the teams made more headlines for things other than cricket.
