Mathews hit back at the board stating that he felt betrayed and it was wrong to blame him alone for the team’s performance at the Asia Cup. The rift between the two parties was out in the open and grabbed headlines. Now, the selection committee has dropped Mathews from the limited overs format and the one-off T20I against England. However, Mathews is a part of the test squad against England. Dinesh Chandimal leads the team in both formats for Sri Lanka now. England will tour Sri Lanka for five ODIs, one T20I and three Tests. The ODI matches begin from October 10 and will go on till October 23. The T20 match will be played on October 27. The test series will begin in November. The last test will be played from November 23.
Talking about the spat between Mathews and the board, Mahela Jayawardene also expressed his views and said that dirty laundry should not be washed in public. “What happened in the last few days @OfficialSLC and to respond is tough. One thing is you should never wash ur dirty laundry in public. Emotional decision are not all ways correct. Best is to think what is best for SL cricket and make none emotional decisions,” read a tweet.
