Sri Lanka’s experienced batsman and former captain Angelo Mathews scored his One-Day International (ODI) career’s third century during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 (CWC 2019) match against India at Headingley in Leeds. Interestingly, this is Mathews’ third century against India in ODIs, and apparently, he has not scored a century against any other nation apart from India. Interestingly, ahead of the India vs Sri Lanka match, Mathews said that he was disappointed with his performance in the Cricket World Cup 2019. “I am disappointed with my performance. I was able to get one big score but I missed out, specially in the first three games. I am very disappointed and could have done a lot better than what I have done. Mathews also revealed that he looking to start bowling regular and contribute to team in more than one way. “Look I am still 32, so I want to play a few more years and look where I am. I want to start bowling soon because that can contribute towards the team in a big way. Unfortunately, I couldn't build my bowling up before the World Cup and will look to contribute in all departments in the future,” Mathews added. Meanwhile, batting first at the time of writing this report, Sri Lanka were 227 for five in 44 overs. Apart from Mathews’ ton, Lahiru Thirimanne scored 53 runs and shared a valuable 124-run stand the senior batsman.
