Angelo Mathews Back As Sri Lanka ODI Captain, to Lead Team Against South Africa
The five-match ODI series between Sri Lanka and South Africa begins on July 29 in Dambulla.
Sri Lankan selection committee has named Angelo Mathews as team’s captain for the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) series against South Africa. The 15-member squad which was announced on Tuesday (July 24) features uncapped left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya as the only new face. Mathews was earlier re-appointed as Sri Lanka's ODI and T20I captain in January. However, a hamstring injury prohibited him from playing and he was able to lead the side in just one game.
The five-match ODI series between Sri Lanka and South Africa begins on July 29 in Dambulla. The teams will stay in the city for the second ODI on August 01. The third and fourth games will be held on Pallekele on August 5 and 8 respectively. The fifth and final ODI will be played at the R Premadasa stadium in Colombo on August 12.
Having whitewashed the visitors in the two-match Test series, Sri Lanka will be looking to extend their dominance in the limited-overs format as well. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka have left out Dinesh Chandimal and Danushka Gunathilaka from the squad. While Chandimal is serving a six-match ban (two Tests and four ODIs), Gunathilaka has been handed a suspension by the Sri Lanka Cricket pending inquiry for a code of conduct violation.
