Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be up against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Eliminator of Indian Premier League 2018 (IPL 2018) at the Eden Gardens. While Knight Riders finished third with 16 points Royals secured fourth place with 14 points. With defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) losing out to Delhi Daredevils (DD) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) going down against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Royals thus qualified for the IPL 2018 playoffs. This will be the 18th contest between these two sides. There is little to separate the two when it comes to head-to-head record. RR have won nine while KKR eight. Though at Eden Gardens, KKR has a dominant lead of five wins from six matches. Earlier, KKR and RR met twice in the league stage, so this will be the third meeting between these teams this season. First match: RR vs KKR at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on April 18
The first meeting between these two sides took place at RR’s home ground. KKR registered a compressive win by seven wickets after chasing down 161. In this match, Robin Uthappa scored 48, but was skipper Dinesh Karthik’s unbeaten 42 off 23 balls that stole the show. Second match: KKR vs RR at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on May 15
It was another of those compressive wins for KKR. Though this time, the home side had to toil little harder. Again, Knight Riders emerged victorious by chasing the target against Royals. For the loss of four wickets, KKR chased 143 in 18 overs. It was Kuldeep Yadav’s 4/20 that rattled RR. Chris Lynn scored composed 45 at the top while Karthik once again provided the finishing touch with unbeaten 41 off 31 balls. Rajasthan Royals will be looking to turn the table this time around and move a step closer towards the IPL 2018 final. However, playing at home and unbeaten record this season against Royals makes Knight Riders strong favourites.
