After Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir to Get a Stand in Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium, DDCA Plans to Unveil Stand Ahead of Ranji Trophy 2019–20

DDCA is planning to unveil the stand as soon as next month. The talks of Gambhir’s stand have also been discussed earlier but the plan was shelved somehow. Nevertheless, the joint secretary of DDCA Rajan Manchanda has put a stamp on this news. Manchanda also revealed that DDCA failed to honour the 2011 World-Cup earlier .

Cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir is set to have a stand on his name in the Arun Jaitely Cricket Stadium in Delhi. Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) is planning to make a stand in the name of former Indian batsman ahead of the next edition of Ranji Trophy which will get underway next month. The Apex cricketing body has finally approved the plan and Gambhir’s stand will be made near the stadium end (Ambedkar football stadium). The stadium in Delhi already has a stand in names of current Indian Skipper Virat Kohli and Virender Sehwag, and the 38-year-old is also set to become the next name. Virat Kohli Stand Unveiled at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Feroz Shah Kotla by DDCA.

According to a report of Indian Express, DDCA is planning to unveil the stand as soon as next month. The talks of Gambhir’s stand have also been discussed earlier but the plan was shelved disagreements among the members of the board. Nevertheless, Rajan Manchanda, the joint secretary of DDCA has put a stamp on this news. He also revealed that preparations have already started to make the grandstand and huge letters of the Gambhir's name have been ordered.  “We had even ordered the large letters of his name to be put up on the stand. At today’s meeting of the Apex council members, it was decided to unveil the stand and felicitate Gambhir sooner than later." Said the secretary.

Gautam Gambhir’s role in Indian cricket is second to none as he was the pioneer behind India’s two of the most significant victories in International cricket. The southpaw was the highest run-scorer in the finals of ICC World T20 2007 and ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. He retired from the game in 2018 and started his second innings as a politician.
