Abhimanyu Mithun just gifted himself -- or rather Tamil Nadu gifted him -- the best birthday gift ever. Mithun, who is celebrating his 30th birthday, became the first bowler from Karnataka to take a hat-trick in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He achieved the feat in the final of 2019-20 Vijay Hazare Trophy when he dismissed Shahrukh Khan, M Mohammed and Murugan Ashwin of consecutive deliveries in the final over of Tamil Nadu's innings. Mithun is also only the second player to take a hat-trick in the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. His figures after a fantastic spell read 9.5 overs, 34 runs and five wickets.
Mithun achieved some rare records after completing the hat-trick in the biggest stage of Indian domestic circuit. His hat-trick made him the first-ever and also first Karnataka bowler to take a hat-trick in a Vijay Hazare Trophy final. Mithun is also this second bowler in cricket to achieve this feat on his birthday. Peter Siddle was the first bowler to achieve the feat when he took a hat-trick in the 2010 Ashes Test series on his 26th birthday.

His figures of 5/34 helped Karnataka reduce Tamil Nadu to 252 in the final after the Karnataka skipper Manish Pandey had won the toss and elected to bowl first. Mithun, who turned 30 on October 25, 2019 (Friday) had already started the game with a wicket in the very first over. He removed Indian international Murali Vijay in the final delivery of the first over for a second-ball duck before returning in the death and dismissing Vijay Shankar to add to his hat-trick.

Mithun's wickets read Murali Vijay (0), Vijay Shankar (38), Shahrukh Khan (27), M Mohammed (10) and Murugan Ashwin (0) and helped Karnataka bundle a star-studded Tamil Nadu under 300 runs. Vijay was out in trying to nick drive an off-stump delivery, which ended under wicket-keeper KL Rahul’s palms before Shankar was dismissed while trying to clear the long-on boundary.
