Indian cricketer Abhay Negi smashed the fastest fifty in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy history in just 14 balls. He broke the earlier record of Robin Uthappa, who held the record of fastest fifty in 15 balls. The 27-year-old cricketer played his quick-fire knock during Mizoram vs Meghalaya, group D match of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019-20. Abhay Negi's spectacular innings consisted of six sixes and two fours. With Negi’s astonishing knock, Meghalaya went past over 200 runs in the 20-over match. The match is being played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Negi came out to bat at no. 6 position after Sanjay Yadav was dismissed at 21. Meghalaya were reeling at 149-4 in 17 overs when Negi arrived on the crease. With his blistering knock, Negi took Meghalaya to 207-4 in 20 overs. Earlier, Mizoram won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. Meghalaya skipper and opener Raj Biswa scored 36 runs. Dwaraka Ravi Teja, who batted before Abhay Negi, scored a fifty. However, Negi's knock turned the match in an unexpected way.
Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019-20 started on November 8. A total of 38 domestic teams are participating in the tournament, which is a 20-overs tournament. Teams are divided into five groups- A, B, C, D and E. The tournament will end with the final match on December 1.
