Team South Africa had a bad outing at the CWC 2019 as they crashed out of the league stage and voices from all over said that they missed the services of AB de Villiers. Now that that the team is out of the mega-event, the former South African player took to social media and lashed out Cricket South Africa. AB de Villiers clarified that he hadn’t made any demands or even enforce his way into the team. If one may recall, just when team South Africa started was on a losing spree, questions started raising on why didn’t de Villiers come back from his retirement and play for an event like the Cricket World Cup. In fact, it was widely speculated that he would come back from retirement for the mega-event. As per several reports, it was said that AB had offered to play, but the board refused, Post this, Cricket South Africa came out clean and said that at no point did AB make himself available for the selection of the CWC 2019. Back then in June, the former cricketer also avoided war of words and kept himself at bay from the controversy. But now that the World Cup has ended for South Africa, de Villiers took to social media and posted a long letter and revealed his conversation with Faf du Plessis.
“See here a player have to give proof about his.. Honesty and Patriotism for his country.. what else you could expect from this world.. this is shame for those who criticized him, ohhh man come on AB you're the best, you were the best.. everyone knows what you gave for Cricket fans.. no need to explain,” read the caption of the long post. Earlier Cricket South Africa had said, “It was no option when I received the news on the day of the squad announcement, our squad was finalised and confirmed. AB is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world, but above all else, we have to stay true to our morals and principles, there is no regret in the decision,” further read the release. Now it would be interesting to see how Cricket South Africa reacts to the statement by de Villiers.
