Rohit Sharma drew attention from fans but not for the right reasons after India suffered a crushing 113-run defeat to New Zealand in the Pune Test on October 26. India with this loss, suffered a home series defeat for the first time after 12 years as they were bowled out for 245 runs in pursuit of 359 runs. India had suffered batting collapses in both the Tests, the highlight of which was being bowled out for just 46 runs in the first innings of the series opener in Bengaluru. Chasing 359 in the second Test, only Yashasvi Jaiswal (77) and Ravindra Jadeja (42) had knocks of some substance with the other batters falling prey to spin on a track where India were expected to have the upper hand over their Kiwi counterparts. While attending the press conference after the IND vs NZ 2nd Test 2024, Rohit Sharma tried to explain the batting collapses that the Indian national cricket team had in these two Tests vs New Zealand national cricket team. He said, "12 saal mein ekbar to allowed hai yaar. Itna collapses agar 12 saal se ho raha tha to shayad hum jeet he nahi hai paate. India me humara expectations bahut rehta hai, ki hum jo bhi match khelenge, humko jeetna hi hai. Humne hi aadat banaya hai wo, aap logo ka galti nahi hai..." (This should be allowed once in 12 years. Had we suffered collapses like this, we would not have won at home. We have a lot of expectations at home and we are expected to win every game. This has happened because of our performances, not anyone's fault). These comments drew flak from fans on social media. 'Factually Incorrect'
Factually incorrect. Collapses have happened very frequently, just the lower order which has bailed out the team. 'Shocking Comment'
'12 Saal mein ek baar chalta hain' isn't something fans want to hear after such a humiliating loss.
That too in conditions that were not so tough that they made it look like.
SHOCKING comment, really!! https://t.co/auhmW09riS

'Should Not Have Said This'
Idk how to react to this.. like he's not making an excuse with that calm tone but he 100% shouldn't have said this because this is something fans are allowed to say to cheer up the team while being grateful for such a record https://t.co/2DUv0f87NS

While New Zealand registered their first-ever Test series win in India, Rohit Sharma and co have plenty of questions which need to be answered after the demoralising loss. India face a stern task when they take on New Zealand in the third Test in Mumbai, which starts on November 1. Rohit Sharma and his men would next travel to Australia for the five-match Test series Down Under in the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
