New Delhi, April 8: The Indian gymnastics team at the Gold Coast were penalised for not having the 'national emblem' on their attires. The trio of Aruna Budda Reddy, Praniti Nayak and Praniti Das were also decked points at the Commonwealth Games 2018 for not wearing a common leotard.

The gymnastics team lost 1.0 point for not adhering to the dress code, said the note written below the scorecard. By dress code, they referred to the common leotard for the Indian contingent. The athletes were also charged of 0.3 point each for the missing national emblem on their attire.

Gymnastics chief coach GS Bawa expressed regret over the faux pas, claiming that it was something which should had not gone unnoticed. The women's team coach Minera Begum did not respond to call from reporters.

Bishweshwar Nandi, the coach of Olympic medalist gymnast Dipa Karmakar, said accountability should be fixed as the error committed by the management is "too embarrassing".

Even the players, he said, are experienced enough to keep the dress code in mind.

The trio, apart from being penalised for the violation of guidelines, failed to grab eyeballs for their performance as they finished seventh with a total of 128.975 points.
