Caden Tellier Dies: 16-Year-Old Rugby Player Passes Away After Suffering Brain Injury During Game
16-Year-Old Caden Tellier suffered an injury during the third quarter of the game and was taken to hospital on the same day. But later his family confirmed the death of the young athlete.
Caden Tellier, representing Morgan Academy lost his life after a horrific injury during the game. The quarterback was hurt following a tackle on Friday in the third quarter of the game against Southern Academy in Selma. Considering the critical condition, Tellier was flown to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital Friday night but on Saturday the school and his parents confirmed the passing of the 16-year-old athlete due to brain injury. Tellier's family made the announcement on social media and wrote, "Our boy, Caden Tellier has met Jesus face to face. We appreciate all of your prayers, and we covet them for the hard days ahead. Everyone who knows Caden has known kindness, generosity, and love, and true to his nature, he is giving of himself one more time. Lives have been touched by the way he lived and now lives will be saved through his passing."
Alabama Independent School Association Executive Director Michael McClendon mentioned that the school is in the process of gathering details about the accident. Headmaster Bryan Oliver also confirmed the sad news and mentioned that Tellier was an organ donor. On the school's Facebook page, Oliver wrote, "There are no words to describe how we feel as a school community and family, Caden will never be forgotten for who he was and what he means to Morgan Academy." Oliver also confirmed that the school has cancelled all sports activities for the coming week.
