Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina led sports fraternity on paying tributes and wishing freedom fighter Bhagat Singh on his 112th birth anniversary. Former Indian international and cricketer-turned-politician Gambhir remembered the revolutionary fighter and quoted a famous line from Bhagat Singh, who sacrificed his life for India the country at a young age of 23. Popularly known as Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, the revolutionary fighter was given a death sentence for plotting the murder of a British Superintendent. Singh and his correspondents were sentenced to death for murdering John P Saunders, a British police officer. Bhagat Singh, along with Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar, had actually conspired to assassinate James Scott, a British Superintendent, after he had ordered the army to take action National Independent leader Lala Lajpat Rai. But they instead murdered Saunders following a case of mistaken identity. All three were hanged to death on March 23, 1931 in the Lahore Jail.
