Bengaluru Floods: Boxer Nishan Manohar Kadam Swims 2.5 Km in Floodwater to Participate in State Championship, Wins Silver Medal
“Where there a will, there is a way,” is an adage we have heard for years now. But this, teenage prodigy Nishan Manohar Kadam has lived it. The 19-year-old hailing from Belgav, a district in Karnataka had to participate in the state-level championship but floods played a spoilsport.

Kadam had to catch a train from Bengaluru, but since the floodwater had logged in, the teenager had no other option than to swim his way through. Not only did he participate in the event but also won a silver medal. Nishan also with his father covered the distance of 2.5 km in 45 minutes to reach the place where he was joined by six other team member. Three days later, Nishan won silver in his category in Bengaluru. "I was waiting for this event and didn't want to miss it at any cost," said a jubilant Kadam. "Since our area was surrounded by water and no vehicles could enter, we had no other option but to swim," he said. The teenager was cordoned by rescue workers as reported by Times of India. Nishan packed his boxing kit tightly in plastic and set off to join his teammates.
Even his team manager, Gajendra S Tripathi lauded his indomitable spirit and said that Nishan had missed practice due to floods but the moment he heard about he could not let go off the opportunity. “Despite these hardships, the boy performed well in all the rounds in the event," said Sai Satish N, secretary for Karnataka Amateur Boxing Association. Nearly 248 boxers participated in the three-day event.
