BCCI Announces Squads for Women's Challenge Match; Harmanpreet Kaur to Lead IPL Supernovas & Smriti Mandana Will Captain IPL Trailblazers
The Board of Cricket Control in India today announced the squads for the two women’s teams IPL Supernovas and IPL Trailblazers.
The Board of Cricket Control in India today announced the squads for the two women’s teams IPL Supernovas and IPL Trailblazers. The two teams will lock horns in a challenge match ahead of the first IPL qualifier on May 22 at the Wankhede Stadium. Harmanpreet Kaur will lead IPL Supernovas whereas Smriti Mandana will be the captain for IPL Trailblazers.
The T20 match will feature 26 players including 10 international stars from England, Australia and New Zealand. IPL Trailblazers boasts of players like India's top bowler Jhulan Goswami and Australia's Alyssa Healy on the other hand, the IPL Supernovas have in their ranks India's ODI captain Mithali Raj and Australian skipper Meg Lanning and Ellyse Perry.
Diana Edulji, member of Committee of Administrators (CoA) and former India captain, had said at the time of announcement of the captains, “We are excited to announce the first-of-its-kind exhibition match involving our women cricketers. BCCI has been pulling out all stops to promote and nurture women’s cricket and this is a small yet significant step towards a prospective league involving women’s stars in the future. The IPL is the biggest and most popular league in the world and it has been a long-time endeavour to have a women’s league that can match the exuberance of IPL.
