Bajrang Punia, a renowned freestyle wrestler from India bagged a Gold medal on Aug 9, 2019, by winning the golden bout in the Tbilisi Grand Prix of V. Balavadze and G. Kartozia, Georgia. The ongoing event is taking place at the New Sports Palace, Georgia which is organised by the Georgian Wrestling Federation. Total 11 Indian wrestlers have participated in this event, in which only Punia is a freestyle the remaining 10 are Greco Roman wrestlers. In Greco Roman wrestler category, Manjeet won the bronze in the 55kg category. Speaking about Bajrang Punia, he was born in Khudan village of Jhajjar district in the state of Haryana, India. He began wrestling at the age of 7 and was encouraged by his father to take wrestling as a professional career. Punia also won a silver medal in the men's freestyle 61kg category in the 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland. He has also been awarded the Arjuna Award in the year 2015. He currently works in Indian Railways as a Travelling Ticket Examiner.

Bajrang Punia will tie the knot with grappler Sangeeta Phogat as per the report from IANS. Sangeeta is the youngest of Phogat sisters and s a former national medalist in the 59-kg weight category. A member of the Phogat family told IANS that the marriage between Bajrang Punia and Sangeeta Phogat is likely to take place after the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
