At the recently concluded Badminton World Championships 2018 in China, India’s Sai Praneeth stunned one and all with an amazing shot. During the last-eight round match against Japan’s sixth-seed Kento Momota, Praneeth dished out a back-hand shot that left everyone impressed. What was special about the shot was Praneeth played it behind his back without proper sight of the shuttlecock.

It was one of the biggest rallies of the match and Praneeth eventually won it. The rally occurred during the second game when the Indian shuttler was leading it by 1-0. Though he was one game down against his Japanese opponent. Meanwhile, the video of Praneeth’s effort s going viral on social media sites.

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra also shared the video. "I’m no badminton expert but can’t imagine that this is a shot Sai had practiced before. The moral is that no matter what your career-sports, music, art, business-you have to trust that your experience will allow you to sometimes, unexpectedly, achieve the impossible..," Mahindra wrote.

Here’s the video:

Despite such a wonderful effort, Praneeth eventually lost the match 21-12 21-12 and thus was eliminated from the tournament. He had earlier received a walkover from South Korea’s Son Wan Ho in the first round. The 25-year-old Indian made it to the last eight after defeating Luis Enrique Penalver of Spain and Hans Kristien Vittinghus of Denmark. He registered the victories in straight games in both the contests.

Praneeth’s compatriots in the men’s category, Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy and Sameer Verma, failed to go past the Round of 16. In women’s category, PV Sindhu made it to the final but was outplayed by Spain’s Carolina Marin.
