PV Sindhu Settles for Badminton Silver Medal in Asian Games 2018 After Losing to Tai Tzu Ying 13-21, 16-21

All eyes were set on the PV Sindhu to walk away with the Golden glory but alas the wait continues to get longer as the Indian shuttler lost the match against Tai Tzu Ying by 13-21 and 16 21 in the women’s single Badminton finals of the Asian Games 2018.

All eyes were set on the PV Sindhu to walk away with the Golden glory but alas the wait continues to get longer as the Indian shuttler lost the match against Tai Tzu Ying by 13-21 and 16 21 in the women’s single badminton finals of the Asian Games 2018. The match started off with Tai winning one point and had already set the tempo for the match by being 2-0 which then went up to 5-0. However, a couple of quick points from PV Sindhu and the Indian shuttler trailed by 4-6. But a couple of errors and Tai was up by 9-4. At the break of the first game, the score was 11-7. Tai was clearly on fire scoring back-to-back points and got into an attacking mode. However, Sindhu did try to make a comeback scoring a couple of points but Tai was proving to be too good for the Indian shuttler. The second game started with Tai once again taking the lead and looked in total control of the match. However, Sindhu tried to pull back the strings by getting a couple of quick points. For the first time in the match, she levelled the scores by 4-4. Trying to pull back the strings making the score 10-13 but Tai raced ahead by 15-11. A couple of quick points and Sindhu once again make a comeback but did that wasn’t enough and lost the match by 16-21.

PV Sindhu’s road to finals was quite an interesting one. She was put up against Vietnam’s Vũ Thị Trang in the Round of 32. Having won the game by 21-10, 12-21, 23-21, she enjoyed the biggest lead of 4 points. The game lasted for about 58 minutes and she ousted the Vietnamese player quite easily. The world number 3 further faced Gregoria Mariska Tunjung from Indonesia. The Indian shuttler pipped the 19-year- old in 34 minutes by 21-12 and 21-15, thus advancing to the quarterfinals where she met Thailand’s Nitchaon Jindapol. Defeating the opponent by 21-11, 16-21, 21-14 she made way to the semi-finals. Now, this match with the Japanese shuttler Akane Yamaguchi was quite a tough one.  Results swung like a pendulum and two left no stone unturned to win this game. However, the Indian shuttler defeated the Japanese player by 21-17, 15-21, 21-10. After the match, Sindhu sounded quite satisfied with her performance and said that she has her strategies in place for the world number one Tai Tzu Ying.
