PV Sindhu scripted history in the sport of badminton after winning the World Championships 2019 at Basel, Switzerland. The Indian shuttler defeated Nozomi Okuhara in the final in straight sets and became the first Indian to bag a gold medal in the history of the global badminton tournament. After the astonishing victory, Sindhu shared a post on Instagram where she talked about her emotions after defeating the Japanese opponent 21-7, 21-7. Mentioning that words can’t express her feeling post the victory, the Rio Olympics 2016 silver medallist said, “I could not hold back my tears when I saw the Indian flag and heard the National anthem playing. Sindhu also informed about her hard work behind the triumph. “Had been preparing for it for so long. Finally, the wait ended. It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my Parents, my coaches (Gopi sir and Ms Kim ) and my trainer (Mr Srikanth Verma)”, the 24-year-old wrote. Sindhu had bagged bronze medal in 2015 and 2016 editions of World Championships. Later she clinched silver in 2017 and 2018 editions.
Sindhu also thanked all her fans and sponsors, who supported her on her journey to finally become World Champions in badminton. The Indian shuttler wrote, “And most Importantly I would like to thank my sponsors and all my fans who have supported me all along. FINALLY WORLD CHAMPION 2019”
After Badminton Association of India (BAI) tweeted about her victory on Sunday on their official Twitter account, lots of people started hailing the Indian sportswoman. Some had called her 'Legend', while others were too happy as Sindhu created history. PM Modi, Indian sportspersons and some cricketers also applauded the current world no. 5 ranked shuttler.
