Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu finally broke jinx to clinch her maiden BWF World Tour Finals title. This is also her first title this calendar year. Before today, Sindhu appeared in five finals including the World Championships, the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games, but never emerged victorious. In the final of 2018 BWF World Tour Finals, Sindhu outplayed her Japanese rival Nozomi Okuhara in straight games 21-19, 21-17 to win the title.

Sindhu started on a promising note against the world number five and took the lead in the opening game. The Indian shuttler never gave up her lead in the first though Okuhara tried hard to go past her. Sindhu eventually won the first game 21-19.

Even in the second game, world number six took the early lead and the Japanese shuttler found it tough to match her. Sindhu kept on building the lead and sealed the game and match 21-17.

On Saturday, Sindhu made it to the final of the tournament defeating Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand. Sindhu defeated Thai world number eight by 21-16, 25-23 in the semi-final in a game which lasted 54 minutes.
