Jwala Gutta was an Indian badminton player who has represented India at many competitions, in the mixed and the women’s doubles events. She has won a total of 316 matches including both disciplines, being the most number of wins by any Indian player. In 2010 Gutta was ranked sixth in the world mixed doubles rankings, the highest rank she had achieved in her career. Born in Maharashtra, India, she was a daughter to a Chinese mother and a Telugu father. She found her major international success along with Ashwini Ponnappa in her career. They went to win their first world championship medal in 2011 London, winning Bronze in the women's double. Apart from the championship the Indian shutter has conquered the South Asian Games on many occasions and has also won a commonwealth gold in 2010 Delhi.
