Pusarla Venkata Sindhu better known as PV Sindhu has emerged as one of the best female badminton players of India. Her name has been scripted in golden letters in the history of sports as she became the first Indian woman to win Olympic silver medal, and one of the two Indian badminton players to ever win an Olympic medal. Born on July 5, 1995, in Hyderabad, Sindhu drew inspiration from Pullela Gopichand. Hailing from a sporting family, PV never wanted to take up sports as her career instead wanted to become a doctor. Eventually, she started playing badminton at the age of eight and impressed people around her with her never say die attitude. Soon she joined Pullela Gopichand’s training academy and won several under10-titles. She won several sub-junior titles and become one of the most prominent players. Her coach Gopichand was quite sure that his student would make it big. On her 24th birthday, let’s have a look at the list of her achievements till date.
- In 2009, Sindhu won a bronze medal at the 2009 Sub-Junior Asian Badminton Championships held in Colombo.
- In 2010, she won a silver medal in singles category at Iran Fajr International Badminton Challenge.
- In the same year she also reached the semi-finals of Junior World Badminton Championships that was held in Mexico. With this kind of performances, Sindhu broke into top 20 of the BWF World Ranking in September 2012 at the age of 17.
- In 2013, the ace shuttler went on to become the first ever Indian women's singles player to win a medal at the Badminton World Championships.
- In the same year, Sindhu was bestowed with the Arjuna Award.
- Sindhu created history by becoming the first Indian to win two back-to-back medals in BWF World Badminton Championships after her bronze medal finish in 2014 BWF World Championships held in Denmark.
- She was awarded the Padma Shri Award, in 2015.
- In 2016, Sindhu won a silver medal at Rio Olympics 2016, as she was beaten by Carolina Martin.
- Sidhu is also a recipient of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 2016.
- The ace shuttler she became the first Indian to have clinched the World Tour title defeating Japan's Nozomi Okuhara in the 2018 World Tour final.
